How Chevy Made Their Mark in the Muscle Car World
Sunday, September 4th, 2011Chevrolet (Chevy) was not to be outdone when it came to putting powerful muscle cars on the streets. During the classic muscle car era between 1960 and 1972, Chevy entered two powerful cars into the muscle car arena that became premier vehicles of choice for many muscle car enthusiasts. Those two cars were the Chevy Camaro and the Impala.
Unlike a racing car, a muscle car is made for the road. The powerful engine combined with the sleek look is designed to dominate the street scene and look great doing it, too. Every automobile maker wanted a piece of the exploding muscle car market, but when Chevy introduced the Camaro in 1966, it, for all intents and purposes, took over the market.
The Chevy Camaro was fully equipped to give the comparable models from the competition a serious run for their money. While the Pontiac Firebird and the Ford Mustang were serious muscle car heavyweights, the Chevy Camaro was fully capable of stealing their thunder.

The Chevy Impala hit the muscle car scene a little earlier and from the design phase on out, it was a car that exemplified quality design at any cost. Small wonder it became one of the cars to own when muscle cars ruled the roads. While many muscle cars seemed to brag on being stripped-down power vehicles with few frills, the Impala was able to put anything on the road to the test and deliver luxury to its owners to boot. That made it a powerful temptation for anyone with some muscle car money to spend.
Each of these cars has continued to hold their popularity with each new generation of muscle car enthusiasts. When the Impala went out of production in 1996, it was not long before General Motors (who produces the Chevrolet brand) saw the need to bring it back in 2000 to a fan base eager to enjoy the design of this sleek muscle car again.
Similarly, the Chevy Camaro has continued to enjoy popularity and it has become a classic example of power and luxury in one fantastic vehicle. It seems clear that Chevrolet was ready to dominate the muscle car world from the get go and they have no intention on yielding that dominance any time soon.
